TORFAEN

Welcome to the RISE Torfaen web site. Unfortunately and as with most good things the end of the Project in Torfaen draws to a close, on December 31st to be precise. The project has been a very considerable success encouraging well over 5000 learners back into some form of education or training, many have achieved recognised qualifications in a broad range of subjects and even found new employment. Some have undertaken courses for general interest but one thing all learners have in common is that they have met new people and made new friends and broadened their horizons.

The entire project has been reliant on the management and support staff, the Learning Development Officers and the Learning Advocates. Many of the latter group have given freely of their time, marshalled by Lynn and Jan our LDO's, to help and encourage other learners. They have assisted in arranging and participating in meetings, open days, carnivals etc and introduced RISE to a wider public in the Borough. The list is endless! It is only right that we applaud all of the above people and recognise the invaluable work that they have done. BUT, we hope it isn't going to end here!

New European funding is being approved and new projects will start in the Borough on January 1st 2009. Many familiar faces from the RISE Team will still be here as part of the new projects, called Bridges into Work and Working Skills for Adults, though some are reaching for pastures new and they will be missed greatly. Those of us still here will be available and happy to help and assist friends and colleagues and learners old and new as they strive to improve their learning, change or improve their careers and become the backbone of a regenerating Borough.

RISE Torfaen will be leaving the web site active for a little while purely as a point of reference, the details of the Development Officers, existing Centres and partner organisations will still be available though obviously the details will become inaccurate with time. However help will still be available via many of the references. The Contact Us address will also remain active for a while.

Finally RISE Torfaen would like to thank YOU. To the the learners who have signed up and benefitted from the opportunities made available, those of you who have made new friends, learned new skills, gained new hobbies, jobs, self esteem and confidence - indeed however you benefitted RISE sends its sincere thanks and wishes you well in all that you strive to achieve. To the many visitors to this site over the last couple of years, we hope that you found the information useful.

Don't forget though that there is still so much more to be done, as individuals, clubs, employers or employees you can help to further regenerate our communities so walk with us into the new projects and see how you can benefit even more in the future.
